The Mirror Prelude
Green fields stretches all the way to the horizon. A paved lane runs at the side of the road, even surface and newly brushed free of gravel and stones. I'm right there on my rollerblades. A warm breeze comforts me as I skate my way forward.
So many miles I have travelled this way over the years, familiar places, sounds, scents.
I go downhill, relaxes a bit. Shake my tired arms. I see a cable stretching over the road. Well, that should be no problem, just jump over it as so many times before.....

Chapter 1. In a World Of Mirrors

Reality can change so quickly. I think I am there no more. The world I know is gone. Confused. Lost. Dark.

There are images floating by. But I can't focus, can't grasp what they show.

The world becomes merely a reflection of itself. I find myself trapped.

Trapped in a world of mirrors.

Chapter 2. Origins
Who am I? Why am I here?
A wide landscape. Mountains. Fjords. This is not reality. Can't be.

I find myself staring into a large mirror. But there's no reflection of me. Am I only a mind without a body?

Returning to the land that allowed me, welcomed me into the world. A world. Some world.

Beautiful. Calm. Mesmerizing.

Maybe I could just stay? Maybe this is the real world?

Why not leave those old, foggy, drifting memories behind?

Chapter 3. Home

Something pulls at me. Something that starts out as a grey fog begins to materialize. A real memory? Starting to sense a body connected to me, to my mind. Is that pain?

Focus. This world is not yours. There's a place somewhere that you call home. What does it look like? I find myself standing, drifting?, in front of a house. White. A garage. A tree. Familiar.

Yes, home. A center of existence. Focus. The vision becomes clearer.

I can almost reach out and touch...

Chapter 4. Reflections

I make my stand outside that home. My home. I place my feet firmly on the ground. I have spent many years here. There's a family connected to this memory. Wife. Children. Oh, I see them, sense them. And from the other side of the fence two eyes look straight into mine, wanting something from me, my attention, and I recognize my dog...

There's a car. Red. Oh, warm memories. Long trips. A large tree that has seen its better days, casting shadows over the car.

Those memories grows on me like reflections in mirrors.

I am, yes, but not here.

Chapter 5. Where I was, I am no more

Not home, no, but sitting on a street. A hand on my shoulder.

My head is hanging. I'm tired, in pain?

A voice talks to me. The hand? Someone is beside me. Asking me questions I cannot answer.

My mind is at home, reaching outwards, expanding, searching for a path to my broken body.

Over the hills and far away. I find it.

The reflection of me becomes me.

Chapter 6. A Place of my own

The voice keeps calling me. Maybe I answer, I don't know, don't remember.

In this place of my own, I struggle to reunite body and mind.

Looking down at my legs, roller blades still on, looks ok. Left hand, numb. Head, hurts. A pair of sunglasses beside me, broken.

As I study and feel my body, my name appears. I recognize where I am.

The voice is calm. Says that I'm ok, help is coming.

The hand and the voice is what brings me back.

Chapter 7. The Story So Far / The Shattered Mirror

I see the cable on the road. Must have tripped over it. The memory of what really happened will never return. My brain has chosen to erase it, forever.

An ambulance appears. No lights, no sound. Don't want to add unnecessary attention. Wise.

The voice gets a face. A kind face that say goodbye as the ambulance doors closes between us.

18 stitches in my face, left thumb in need of surgery. The reality comes crashing down.

Shattering the last image from my world of mirrors.

The Mirror Postludium

I revisited the voice that became a man. Grateful for his hand and his voice that found me in the other world.

I did try the rollerblades again. They no longer gave me any joy, so I put them on a shelf in the garage.

The mirror in my bathroom reflects both the new and the old me.

In this world mirrors don't deceive.

Watch your reflection change as you make peace with the mirror.

The mirror never lies;
